Order Your Credit Report 

It is broadly recommended that you order and review your credit report at least once or twice a year.  As mentioned earlier, the three major credit bureaus in the U.S. are:

  • Equifax  (Order Credit Report: 800-685-1111;  Report Fraud: 800-525-6285) 
  • Experian   (Order Credit Report: 888-397-3742;    Report Fraud: 888-397-3742) 
  • Trans Union   (Order Credit Report: 800-888-4213;   Report Fraud: 800-680-7289) 

  Ordering a copy of your credit report is a snap! 

 

Tip:  A Free Credit Report by Law?

In the U.S., under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), you are entitled to request a free copy of your credit report, once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide consumer reporting companies - Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.

Beyond your once-a-year free credit report from the “big three” (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion), you can order copies for a fee.

 

Your Credit Report and Identity Theft

Securing a copy of your credit report is vastly important in keeping abreast with your credit standing.  It also allows you to exercise damage-control by catching any unauthorized activity that may be occurring in your name.

Once you’ve receive your credit report, review it carefully and immediately report any discrepancies you find.  If you suspect fraudulent activity then you should consider putting a fraud alert on your credit report right away!
